The Cambridge Institute for Family Enterprise is always naming high profile business leaders who are part of family-owned and multigenerational businesses to an annual list of 25 leaders. To be a part of this list you not only have to have a track record of success, you also need to be a model of good character and ethics in your community, and that is why Eduardo Sirotsky “Duda” Melzer was named to that last. Duda Melzer leads a broadcasting and media company based in Brazil that owns many newspapers, radio stations and television networks. Melzer is certainly proud to be in the Sirotsky family who founded the company, but he got to where he is by his own merit and expects future company leaders to do the same.
Eduardo Sirotsky Melzer began in the business by obtaining formal educational degrees including a bachelor’s in business administration from the Pontificate Catholic University of Rio Grande de Sul and an MBA from Harvard Business. He started out in finance and accounting at the Delphi Corporation in the US and then entered media management when he became CEO of BoxTop Media. In 2004 he officially entered Grupo RBS as a Managing Director of its domestic markets, and then in 2012 he was promoted to CEO and then Chairman in 2015.
Duda Melzer has held other positions in media and advertising regulations and ethics committees such as Brazil’s CONAR and Standard Norms Executive Council. He’s also won awards for excellence in both broadcasting and advertising that include the Caboré Award and the Brazilian Advertising Association’s executive award. Duda Melzer has also pursued other business endeavors aside from Grupo RBS that include venture capital investing in technological startups in both Brazil and the US at e.Bricks Digital, and he’s also given to several Brazilian charity and activist groups.
